I have known Emmanuel Salazar for the past two years. When I first met him I knew he was special. He is genuinely nice, well mannered, mature and carries himself professionally for being so young. He had just published the book he coordinated and was coauthor of, Letters to the President.
I was impressed and purchased his book. Emmanuel was born in Mexico City on February 14, 2008. His parent’s names are Laura Lira and Fernando Salazar. He has a brother Edwin who has Down Syndrome and Emmanuel is one of his strongest advocates. He is not only an advocate but he’s also an activist.
I watched how Emmanuel interacted with his mom, dad, and brother. When he told me his birthday was on Valentine’s Day that explained why his heart is filled with so much Love and Compassion. He is a very Special young man. We conversed and he was very interested in my career.
I had received the Woman of the Year award so he decided to interview me and published an article in the Downey Latino Newspaper for Mother’s Day. He is inspired to write about Latinos who are positive role models.
He decided it would be good for him to interview other people and publish their success stories. Since Valentine’s Day was approaching I decided to interview Emmanuel, especially since his birthday is on Valentine’s Day.
One of the reasons Emmanuel is very passionate about education is that at a young age when he was in elementary school he was isolated and ignored by his teacher because he was an English Learner. He was treated unfairly because of his language barrier.
His mom being so involved in her children’s education saw the need to put him in a different school. He then attended a school which offered Dual Language Instruction and he found his comfort zone and was able to excel.
That experience ignited him to always want to do the best and be the best he can be. He is an exceptional student and loves school, for which he has a GPA of 4.286. He enjoys playing the Cello and is in the Los Alisos Middle School String Orchestra. He is also his school’s ASB President.
Over the past years he has obtained and received many awards, honors, and certificates. He has 108 certificates, 11 medals, 6 trophies, 1 crystal plaque for being an exceptional young man, and he requested and obtained a Proclamation from the City of Downey in honor of people with disabilities and in honor of his brother, Edwin.
Emmanuel is very proud of having 3 certificates from the Senate, 2 certificates from the Congress, and 2 from the Assembly. He is a true leader and a go-getter. He aspires to be an Engineer and to attend UC Berkeley. He enjoys interviewing people and has a true passion for education and writing.
Emmanuel always says:“ Think Big, and You’ll Achieve It! ¡Piensa en Grande y lo Alcanzarás!”

Ser Especial es Nacer el Día de San Valentín
Conozco a Emmanuel Salazar desde hace dos años. Cuando lo conocí supe que era especial. Es genuinamente agradable, bien educado, maduro y se comporta profesionalmente para ser un joven. Acababa de publicar el libro que coordinó y donde también fue coautor, Cartas al Presidente.
Me impresionó y compré su libro. Emmanuel nació en la Ciudad de México el 14 de febrero de 2008. Sus padres se llaman Laura Lira y Fernando Salazar. Tiene un hermano, Edwin, que tiene Síndrome de Down y Emmanuel es uno de sus más firmes defensores.
Emmanuel no es solamente un defensor de las injusticias, pero también es un activista. Observé cómo Emmanuel interactuaba con su mamá, su papá, y su hermano. Cuando me dijo que su cumpleaños era el Día de San Valentín, eso explicaba por qué su corazón estaba lleno de tanto Amor y Compasión.
Es un joven muy especial. Conversamos y él estaba muy interesado en mi carrera. Yo había recibido Mujer del Año así que decidió entrevistarme y publicó un artículo en el Periódico Downey Latino por el Día de las Madres. Se inspira para escribir sobre los latinos que son modelos a seguir positivos.
Decidió que sería bueno para él entrevistar a otras personas y publicar sus historias de éxito. Como se acercaba el día de los enamorados decidí entrevistar a Emmanuel, sobre todo porque su cumpleaños es el día de San Valentín.
Una de las razones por las que a Emmanuel le apasiona la educación es que a una edad temprana, cuando estaba en la escuela primaria, fue aislado e ignorado por su maestra porque era un aprendiz de inglés.
Fue tratado injustamente debido a la barrera del idioma. Su madre, que estaba tan involucrada en la educación de sus hijos, vio la necesidad de ponerlo en una escuela diferente. Luego asistió a una escuela que ofrecía instrucción bilingüe y encontró su zona de comodidad y pudo sobresalir.
Esa experiencia lo encendió a querer siempre hacer lo mejor y ser lo mejor que puede ser. Es un estudiante excepcional y le encanta la escuela, por la cual tiene un GPA de 4,286. Le gusta tocar el violonchelo y está en la Orquesta de la Escuela Secundaria Los Alisos.
En los últimos años ha recibido muchos premios, honores y certificados. Él tiene 108 certificados, 11 medallas, 6 trofeos, 1 placa de cristal por ser un joven excepcional, solicitó y obtuvo una Proclamación de la Ciudad de Downey en honor a las personas con discapacidades y en honor a su hermano, Edwin.
Emmanuel está muy orgulloso de tener 3 reconocimientos del Senado, 2 del Congreso, y 2 de la Asamblea. Él es un verdadero líder y emprendedor. Aspira a ser Ingeniero y asistir a UC Berkeley. Le gusta entrevistar a la gente y tiene una verdadera pasión por la educación y la escritura.
