Besides Claudia Frometa, the Committee has also nominated City of Pico Rivera Councilmember Gustavo Camacho as Board member who was elected for a second term in the Class of 2024 -Second Term

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) announced today a new slate of Board Members and Officers for its 2021–2022 term, put forward Monday, June 28, by its Nominations Committee, Chaired by Rhode Island Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, during its annual meeting.
As the NALEO Board bids farewell to six retiring members, it welcomes seven new Board members along with the installation of new officers for the 2021–2022 term.
The following Board members completed their Board service on Monday:
• Gadsden Elementary School District Board Member Tadeo De La Hoya,
• Tarrant County Justice of the Peace Sergio De Leon,
• Former Speaker of the Colorado General Assembly Crisanta Duran,
• Former Florida State Senator Anitere Flores,
• Former City of Corona Council Member Eugene Montanez, and
• Former El Camino College Trustee John Vargas.
Earlier this year, the Nominations Committee determined priority criteria for the new slate of Board members to ensure that the Board reflected the diversity of NALEO’s constituency. The Committee issued a call for nominations to the NALEO membership in February and received 29 names.
The Committee presented the following nominees who were elected to the Board for the Class of 2024-First Term:
• New Mexico State Auditor Brian Colón,
• Minnesota State Senator Melisa López-Franzen,
• Phoenix Union High School District Board Member Stephanie Parra,
• Florida State Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez,
• Oakland County Health Network Board Member John Paul Torres,
• Miami-Dade Expressway Authority Board Member Luz Urbaez Weinberg, and
• City of Chicago Alderman Gilbert Villegas.
The Committee has also nominated the following Board members who were elected for a second term in the Class of 2024-Second Term:
• City of Pico Rivera Council Member Gustavo Camacho,
• Hudson County Clerk E. Junior Maldonado,
• Texas State Representative Armando Martinez,
• Albuquerque Public Schools Board Member Peggy Muller-Aragón,
• Miami-Dade County Public Schools Board Member Lubby Navarro,
• Orange Unified School District Board Member John Ortega, and
• New York State Senator Gustavo Rivera.
In addition, the Committee nominated, and the Board elected Ricardo Lara to fill the unexpired vacancy in the Class of 2023-Second Term.
The Board elected the following officers for the 2021–2022 term:
• President – California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara,
• First Vice President – Miami-Dade County School Board Member Lubby Navarro,
• Second Vice President – Hudson County Clerk E. Junior Maldonado,
• Secretary – New York State Senator Gustavo Rivera, and
• Treasurer – City of Downey Mayor Claudia Frometa.
The Nominations Committee will soon issue another call for nominations for the Class of 2025-First Term and encourages all interested NALEO members to apply.
